Meet our Class of 2020!

Every dancer is special at JDC, but for the 6 ladies below they have reached a milestone in their life.  They are seniors graduating high school this year and preparing for the next chapter in their life.  Before they leave us, we want to take a moment to recognize each one of them.

Congratulations to our Seniors... Anissa Kilinski, Ariel Fuller, Gianna Cognetti, Katie Manuel, Lauren Jacobs and Maddie Barber!

We wish you all the best and much success in your future endeavors!

Remember live, laugh, love and dance.....

Anissa Kilinski

At what age did you begin dancing?

I began dancing at the age of 3.

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

My favorite genre would have to be ballet.  Lyrical and Contemporary would be a close second.  I love ballet because of the history, technique and challenges of classical pointe ballet.

What have you learned from JDC?

From my time at JDC I've learned hard-work and dedication.

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

I am for sure going to miss the teachers the most.  Seeing them every week and being able to take class from them is a highlight for me, so not being there each week, working with them will be a big change in my life and I'm really going to miss it!

What are your plans after high school?

I will be attending SUNY Adirondack for the next couple of years, and then on to a 4 year school.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hope is to always keep dance a part of my life, whether that's a career in the field of dance or just doing it for fun.  I never want to stop dancing!

Ariel Fuller

At what age did you begin dancing?

I started dancing at age 5.

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

Jazz is my my favorite style of dance, because it is so sassy and that is me!

What have you learned from JDC?

I’ve learned how to "just be me" and how to point my feet, I'm very bad at that :)

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

The people!  Everyone is so supportive of each other and always there for one another.  I've made a lot of friends at JDC and it's going to be weird not dancing with my best friends.

What are your plans after high school?

I will be attending the University of Albany for a degree in meteorology.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hopes are to be the most successful person I can be and I hope to be on the Weather Channel someday.

Gianna Cognetti

At what age did you begin dancing?

I began dancing when I was 7 years old.

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

Tap is my favorite genre because it can be interpreted in so many different ways.  I enjoy both the upbeat and lyrical styles of tap.

What have you learned from JDC?

I have learned discipline, team work and time management at JDC.

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

What I will miss most is sharing my excitement for dance with the little girls I teach.

What are your plans after high school?

After high school I plan on attending college and continuing dance in some capacity in my future.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hope for the future is, that I continue to be passionate about whatever path I choose; and to stay true to myself.

Katie Manuel

At what age did you begin dancing?

I began dancing when I was 10 years old.

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

Tap Dance!  Tap dance gives me an outlet for negative energy.  Tap dancing has  improved my balance, coordination and core control, which in return has given me better posture and less chance of falling or tripping, which I do a lot.

What have you learned from JDC?

How to dance and have better control of my movements and body.  I feel more in control of myself.

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

Ms. Kasie!!  She's more than a dance teacher, she's a mentor and a friend.  I've grown so much with her and I love her very much.

What are your plans after high school?

Going to College.  I am excited about my future.  No matter where my path goes, dance and music will always be a part of my life!

What are your hopes for the future?

I will continue working on my own individual work, which includes music therapy, art, singing and painting.  With a internship/apprenticeship in similar fields on the horizon.  It is my hope to continue to learn and grow each day.  One should always keep a hunger for knowledge, because there is always more to learn.  If you don't learn something new every day, you've wasted a day to teach others.

Lauren Jacobs

At what age did you begin dancing?

I started dancing at age 2 ½

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

Tap because it is what I'm best at.

What have you learned from JDC?

I have gained so much self-confidence from being a dancer.  I have learned how to be a teammate and the definition of team-work and dedication.  At JDC I've had the opportunity to teach preschoolers, which has taught me how to be a role model and a mentor.  I have also learned how to be a friend from all the amazing friends I've made at JDC.

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

EVERYTHING!!!  JDC has been my 2nd home and I am going to miss everything and everyone more than I can put into words!

What are your plans after high school?

I plan to continue my education at a 4 year college studying nursing.

What are your hopes for the future?

It is my hope to become the very best nurse I can be and eventually get married and have a family.

Maddie Barber

At what age did you begin dancing?

I began dancing at the age of 2.

What genre of dance is your favorite and why?

My favorite style of dance is lyrical.  When I dance this style I can show my emotion and express my feelings.

What have you learned from JDC?

I have learned that your family isn't just people connected by blood, it is the people who support you and love you no matter what and I am grateful for my JDC Family!

What are you going to miss most about JDC?

I am going to miss everything at JDC, the hard-working nights, the laughs, the tears, the support but most of all, the LOVE.

What are your plans after high school?

I plan to attend SUNY Potsdam pursuing my degree in Early Childhood Education, which I plan to continue to dance as well.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope in the future I will have a job as an elementary school teacher and have a family of my own.
